Target shooting can be fun activity for the entire family; however, strict
safety rules must be followed. The community and the nation eyes are watching.
We want this facility to set an example of what safe and responsible gun
ownership is.
General Safety
One of two factors causes most accidents:
Human error
Mechanical failure
Firearms
All firearms and shooting bags must be inspected prior to using the range.
Upon entering the facility go immediately and check in at the duty counter.
Age
Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Safety Course
All shooters must take a safety and range familiarization course prior to
shooting.
Range Officers
The Range Officer on duty is in direct charge of the range at all times.
The Range Officer WILL eject from the range, any person handling a firearm in
an unsafe or careless manner.
Ammunition
Only ammunition that is purchased at range maybe used.
Armor piercing, tracer or incendiary ammunition is prohibited.
Black powder is not allowed.
The use of outside ammunition will result in membership revocation and the forfeiture of your membership dues.
Range Commands
CEASE FIRE: On this command, (which maybe issued verbally or signaled by a
red light or by the range target lights turned off. Anyone may declare a
cease-fire at anytime when it is deemed necessary. During a cease-fire you must
stop shooting immediately. Even a shooter who is in the process of squeezing the
trigger must stop; remove his or her finger from the trigger while keeping the
muzzle pointed down range. Unload your firearm cylinders open, magazines out
slides back and then place the firearm on the bench.
COMMENCE FIRING: On this command you may step forward and reload your firearm
and continue to fire.
Safety Rules
- Always point the muzzle in a safe direction
- Keep fingers off the trigger and outside the trigger guard until ready to
shoot.
- Keep the action open and unloaded until ready to shoot. This means being
in position on the firing line with the range cleared for shooting.
- Know how your firearm operates.
- Be sure that you are using the correct ammunition.
- Carry only one caliber of ammunition when shooting.
- Loading or unloading your firearms is only allowed in the shooting lane
with muzzle pointed down range.
- Wear eye and ear protection.
- Do not use alcohol or drugs while shooting
- No food or beverage is permitted in the shooting area.
- Shoot only at authorized targets.
- Open actions and unload firearms during a ceasefire.
- Do not handle firearms or stand at the firing line when others are down
range.
- Only those arms authorized are allowed on the range.
- Obey all range commands immediately.
- No one shall go forward of the firing line, unless a ceasefire has been
called and authorized by the Range Officer.
- Shooting a rifle from any unstable position (hip shooting) is prohibited.
- When loading, the rifle must remain on the rest and pointed at the
backstop area. Moving the rifle off the bench rest to reload is prohibited.
- Only one shooter per position, coaching is permitted.
- Non-shooters may not enter range area.
- You may not shoot if you have been drinking alcohol or have been using
other substances, including prescription drugs, within the last 8 hours.
- When leaving the firing line at any time, unload the firearm, lock the
action open and lay it down with the muzzle pointing down range.
- When you are completely finished shooting and wish to leave, all firearms
must be unloaded and placed in a tray with the action open before leaving
the shooting position.
- If your firearm malfunctions, becomes jammed, or if you require assistance
of any type from the range office, lay it down on the table with the muzzle
pointing down range, step back from your shooting point and raise your hand
and wait for assistance from the range officer. (At no time should you
attempt to remove a loaded or jammed firearm from the firing line.
- When you have a miss fire (dud) you must keep the muzzle pointed down
range for 60 seconds and signal the range officer.
- Always keep muzzle pointed down range, never point muzzle towards ceiling
or floor.
- Wash your hands after shooting.
- Full autos are allowed; all shooters must be certified by the facility
prior to use.
- When range is at full capacity and there are shooters waiting to use a
lane, you will be limited to one hour. If there is no one waiting, you
may shoot as long as the range is opened. Scheduled events and reservation
of the range have priority over individual shooters.
- Lane reservation may be made for a fee of five ($5.00). Reservation will
be honed up to 15 minutes pass the reserved time, after which the
lane will be released and the fee forfeited.
